Don't be surprised.....these easy home made goodies are for you and your household, not your tummy (although if eaten these are non-toxic!!)
Deodorant:
2 Tbsp. baking soda
2 Tbsp. arrowroot powder
2 Tbsp. coconut oil
½-1 tsp. melted coconut oil
Combine first three ingredients into a bowl and mix until it resembles a paste. Add melted oil, little by little ensure the rest of the ingredients stick together. Voila! Simple, cheap, smelling good deodorant!!
Toothpaste
2/3 C. baking soda
1/2 Tsp. fine sea salt
10-15 Drops peppermint (wintergreen, cinnamon, spearmint work too!) essential oils.
Water
Combine first 2 ingredients in a small glass jar (re-use and make it pretty if you want to) and add cold water and oils until you get a paste consistency. Dip toothbrush into jar and enjoy!
Note: clay paste can be added for extra scrubbing.
Apple cider vinegar: Not enough space for this one!
Conditioner – yes, really!! Equal parts ACV & H2O in a glass in your shower and pour over hair. Let sit as long as you want, rinse, and feel the smooth!
Toner-equal parts ACV, water, witch hazel, and a few drops of Tea Tree Oil in a dark glass bottle. Shake, try, add more Tea Tree Oil if desired based on skin sensitivity.
Add to ACV to some H2O for a wonderful zesty cleaning drink! No sugar, super healthy, cheap, and way better than those expensive sugary drinks!!
Vinegar also unclogs drains, is the best window cleaner around, leaves a streak-free floor, removes fingerprints on those stainless
steel surfaces, and is the only anit-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-microbial cleaner that kills EVERYTHING including the viruses from colds and flu!! All of this is done without leaving any chemical toxins behind!! Oh, and its cheap, eco-friendly, and can be bought in bulk, but use White Vinegar as it is less expensive and does the job perfectly!
Baking Soda
Shampoo-2 Tbsp. baking soda in a glass cup. Take into shower and add hot water when ready to shampoo. Pour over head and rub into scalp and hair. Rinse and follow with ACV for a clean, inexpensive, eco-friendly, healthy alternative to chemical laden shampoos!
Lots of great uses too! Think anything that requires gentle scrubbing such as porcelain sinks, counters, stuck on greasy dish scum, exfoliate your face & body, feet & hands. It also acts as an agent to draw out venom from bites, and heat from sun burns. Each recipe is similar in that you mix enough baking soda with water to form a paste. For your body, get crazy and add your favorite essential oil for a luxurious scrub!
Hair Spray
Okay, I didn’t believe this one either but for a soft hold, it works!
1 Cup Filtered water
4 Tsps. White sugar
Essential Oils you love! Good options include Lavender, Geranium, Peppermint, Rosemary, Lemon, Orange.
Boil sugar in water. Allow to cool completely. Add as many oils as you want noticing the strength of the smell.
Note: adjustments to sugar will provide more or less hold, but don’t overdo it!!
Pour into a spray bottle, new BPA free please and Voila!!
I use Coconut Oil first on my hair as a gel/paste and then the hairspray for hold. I love them both and so does my hair, scalp, and pocketbook! On my daughter’s long hair, coconut oil is a great de-tangler and static controller!!
Coconut Oil
Oh, the praises of coconut oil!! I couldn’t exist without it and for the price, why not go crazy!!
Lotion-I use this everywhere and if I want to be luxurious, I simply heat it up and it goes on warm and yummy! It’s great on your lips, extra dry feet and hands (put on at night and cover with socks and in the morning you have soft smooth feet), hair, face, and can be whipped into a yummy body butter!
It can be used in cooking as an oil and doesn’t burn in high heats but adds a great faint flavor. It can be used in coffee, baking, smoothies, candy, cooking, and as an energy boost. It is a natural SPF, tanning oil, is great in soaps, can be made into toothpaste, shave cream, baby lotion and the list goes on! Winter Lotion
Combine equal parts coconut oil, Shea Butter, Vitamin E oil and heat up on low heat to mix together fully. Pour into your favorite (perhaps re-used!) jar and let it cool for a few moments before adding several (depends on how strong you want it to be for you) drops of your favorite essential oil. Place in refrigerator to cool completely. Now you have a wonderful custom made lotion at a fraction of the cost! Feel free to add and experiment. You can add beeswax or jojoba or many others....remember it is custom so take time to play and enjoy and find your own favorite!
My favorite essential oils to use are lavender (smells great, inexpensive, calming), German chamomile (soothing, healing, great for skin), Tea Tree (anti-septic, anti-fungal, cleans, restores, heals), citrus scents (healing, vitality, energy, smells wonderful).
Okay, that is a start!! Jut remember living green and healthy is easy and inexpensive if you put a little imagination and effort into it!!
