Distractions & Transformation!

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

Ah, transformation!!

As it is a new year, the topic is close at hand, and since 2020 was such a hard year, it really is appropriate for all of us to take a moment and reflect. in order to move forward more wisely in the coming year. As for me, there were a lot of lessons especially on the get-my-business-up-and-running-in-order-to-help- others aspect of my life! As I think on it, I see that we as a global world have some significant changes needing to be made. As an American or even Western culture, again we desperately are in need of a check in. As individuals, it is time for us all to take a look at ourselves, our lives, and to stop running around in circles (and for lack of a better way of putting it) being stupid! I say this to myself as well, on this first month of the New Year and find myself checking in and seeing some same old patterns showing up. Not so good if you want genuine transformation, mostly because it means I lost my awareness and balance and flow!

Quick story, I was in the flow, moving forward regarding my coaching business. There is so much I want to do with it and the desire to really reach people on a core level to create lasting change (say, transformation!!) in their lives is strong. I know that the more individual lives that change the more a collective change will come and that is exactly what the world needs right now. So for me to have been sleep walking in my life a bit recently, not paying attention and falling into the distractions of life rather than continuing on the momentum of focusing, is a bit disappointing! Here is what happened and let me know if you can relate.

My daughter has wanted a “real pet” for years now. We have two parakeets but apparently those are not pets. At least not the kind of pet you can snuggle and take for walks or brush or play with or well, pet. Now, I adore and love my daughter and totally understand her desire for an actual pet. However, she is allergic to cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and mostly likely ferrets and anything else with "cat fur". Dogs have no data input....we simply haven't owned one and her exposure has been limited, so who knows for sure! A few dogs have caused breakouts while others have not affected her in the least. So I thought, maybe this is the answer. Maybe I can fulfill my little sweetheart’s desire for a pet with man’s best friend. Yay me! You can see where this is going. I looked for a long time, years actually and attempted to rescue a dog but there were many restrictions and none available what with this Covid cleaning out the shelters (a good thing!). I preferred a dog, but after a long time of failed attempts at adopting, I relented and said, let’s do a puppy! I again researched some breeds I already liked, found a perfect fit, researched breeders some more and ended up with a great little Boxer puppy named, Lily. She was perfect! She was sweet! She was calm for a puppy and everything at my house was Shangri-La…..until it wasn’t. On day 3 of ownership, yes you guessed it, she broke out. Day 4 and 5 were worse and by day 6, we were talking re-homing this sweet little bundle. We did successfully on day 10 which is actually not the point of the story but a very good story I will share later about LOA and how fast it worked!

The point is, I got distracted. Not a bad distraction, but distracted none the less. And I lost momentum, flow, energy, resources, and time. I was moving forward wonderfully and then I wasn't. It happened so easily, too that it made me ponder: distractions are simply bred into our culture. We are a 3 second attention span, fast-paced, hyper-newness, move on to the next best thing, sort of people. I am aware of this, rail against it, but find I too have my distractions. Obviously and you guessed it, this is my distraction pattern! I justified the distraction as a need for my daughter rather than staying my course. I chose instead to not focus and I got out of the flow I had started. We all do it. We find ways to NOT look at, focus, and stay the course to completion on multitudes of tasks in our lives. We pull in the distractions when we get out of our flow. When our hearts and our minds and our souls are not all married focusing on our desired intent, we easily get off course. Then, it is so easy to be pulled away by distractions. Good distractions. Fun. Nice. Super cute, even. But distractions none the less. Distractions away from what we say we want!!! And guess what? The universe says, okay, you want to be distracted (because that is what we tell it by focusing away and on the distraction), here are some distractions. It is the Law of Attraction working perfectly just not how we want it to work!! Trust me, I know how to distract myself in the best most meaningful ways!

What I am practicing is focus. Focusing on what I truly want and creating a life that suits my daughter and me. Focus on my coaching business, my website, my Working Journal, my daughter, and getting this idea of living life transformed out there to as many people as will listen! It is with focus that we accomplish. Mono-focus, as I like to call it, not multi task.

So, as I lost about 12 days on this very cute and sweet distraction. I work now to set myself back up and getting back into the flow I had started. To continue transforming my own life in order to help others transform theirs! I highly encourage a look at your own life, your stated desires, goals, intents & plans and see where you need to refocus this year. Then, get on applying the LOA and see your own life transform!
